End of season corn stalk nitrate testing will be here soon. Sampling is between 1 to 3 weeks after black layers have formed on about 80 percent of the kernels of most ears. The portion of each plant sampled is the 8-inch segment of stalk found between 6 and 14 inches above the soil and we recommend 15 segments. We want to remind those of you that are in states with nutrient management plans that need to follow the land grant university recommendations that we now have the TriState, Penn State and University of Maryland in place in our recommendation program. Use the alphabetical crop list on our website and search for Tri-State, Penn State and UMD. If you need supplies you can order on line or by calling our office.
